After watching so much bootfitting tutorial content from Craig's YouTube channel, I wanted to try out his footbeds, both because my existing cut-to-fit footbeds weren't working for me and to support a small business that openly shares their knowledge and experience with the end user. I'll preface with the fact that my feet are fairly "standard" without any tricky bootfitting needs, and the only challenge is that I have a longer arch for my size foot and height. I ended up buying one size up, and trimmed down the length by a cm so the arch is proportionally longer relative to the overall length, and now I have a pair of footbeds that feel custom made for me. In general, I feel like I have a better sense of what my foot is doing, and would describe the support as progressive in the sense that the footbed isn't rigid or static in its support; rather, the support feels dynamic and proportional to the force applied . This last part is the key difference between Patriot Footbeds and others I've had - proprioception (nice $5 word). The flex along the footbed length-wise was a subtle, but beneficial change from overly stiff and blocked-off footbeds I've used before. The flex, coupled with the more spherical medial arch support made all the difference in the world to me. I don't have flat feet, but my foot would still flatten out with my old footbeds because those footbeds only supported the medial arch along the inside edge of the footbed. With the Patriot All-Mountain Footbed, the medial arch support extends across the foot to offer a wider base of support, but it did so without immobilizing my foot! Ski boots will never feel like slippers, but my experience has been that it's hugely beneficial to allow the foot's anatomy to dynamically respond to the forces involved when skiing. Don't let the description of "spherical support" deter you - it's not like stepping on golf balls, and even if you have the flattest of feet, I'm sure some heat molding would improve things. Overall, custom insoles can be great, but they can also be terribly expensive and ineffective depending on the skillset of who made them, and their school of thought in implementing them (i.e. immobilize your foot, weighted or unweighted, etc). I you have "average" feet, I don't think you can do much better than the Patriot All-Mountain Footbeds. They happen to be off the shelf footbeds, but the dynamic support and comfort they've offered has been one of the best values (price vs performance) I've had in ski equipment. Give them a shot, and don't be afraid to experiment. I tinkered by ordering a larger size, cutting it down, and now I have the best dynamic foot support I've ever had! Customer support after the sale is also phenomenal. Craig stands by his product, and my experience has been that they want you to be stoked on your new gear, and won't leave you hanging if you have an issue.
